The Photographer - Graham Adams:
Gray (Graham)
is in his 60th year during which time he has taken photographs
on and off for 47 years, since
he went to Paris for 8 days with his school using a “Cresta” lent
him by his father. He took 2 x 24 shots, let the light into 1
film, when changing it in the wardrobe and ended with 12 blurred,
grey, under/over
exposed shots.
Photography went on the back burner until
he bought a Zenith 3n with a 300mm lens which he used whilst following
another of
his passions, Motor Racing, back when the paddock, pits, and
drivers were not always off limits to amateur snappers and the likes
of Graham Hill,
Hulme, Brabham, Surtees and inimitable Jim Clark took part
not
only in Grand Prix but raced saloon cars giving fantastic picture
opportunities.
At the age of 10 Graham started sailing
and this has been his major indulgence to this day. When he decided
to make Brightlingsea
his home he bought
a Nikon 56 slr, a 300mm lens and a 2 times converter and
started to snap “the
most photogenic town in Essex” and what you see on
his site is the fruits of his labours over the past 3 years,
now
with time available
having had work give him up due to Parkinsons disease.
His
first exhibition Reflections of Brightlingsea was in December
04 when
somewhere close
to 650 visitors saw the pictures, many were counted twice,
returning on the second day for another look. It is sometimes
commented
that he defies the conventions on picture composition and
construction particularly
on the position of the horizon, he points to the impressionist
artists particularly Claude Monet who’s work he has
long admired. His favourite Monets all have boats, water,
and reflections
and, whilst he wouldn’t
claim, nor permit any comparison with Claude Monet, that
greatest of the impressionists remains Graham's inspiration.
Graham
now uses a digital
Nikon Coolpiix 8.7 megapix. However all but a few of
the pictures shown here are derived from 35mm. The digital ones carry
the additional data on exposure etc.
Thank you for your time visiting this site; enjoy the pictures for
what they are...
